Kimmy Cantrell Masks

5th grade recently completed a lesson about Kimmy Cantrell, a contemporary African American artist.  Cantrell is know for his ceramic faces which are quirky, asymmetric and colorful.  Students began by sketching their mask ideas in their journal.  Once they completed their design they began to build them out of cardboard; finally paint was added.  The results are show stopping, probably my favorite project of the entire year.
