Back to school installation

 I always like to begin each school year with a collaborative project. This year our students studied muralist Kelsey Montague. Kelsey is famous for her street art, particularly her painting of wings. For our wings, each student designed an individual feather. When all assembled our wings are super eye-catching, everyone has a new favorite selfie spot!

Hokusai

Second grade is studying Japanese art.  Being the heavy hitter that he is, we had to start with Hokusai!  We began by reading The Great Wave, a story inspired by the artist.  After we examined some of his work we got our hands dirty!  Students created these three dimensional papier mache reliefs of Hokusai's wave.  Students had a blast and the results are beautiful.

Chinese Porcelain

This year for Chinese New Year, Second grade read about Zhang He a great Chinese explorer.  Zheng He helped to bring Cobalt to China allowing the vibrant blue pottery of the Ming dynasty to be made.  Students designed their own vases using classic Chinese imagery such as dragons and pagodas.  Students then picked a Chinese character to sign their work.

Valentine's Day

In honor of Valentine's Day, second-grade created these color wheel mosaics.     

Fall Harvest

This bulletin board displays the work of Kindergarten and Second grade.  Kindergarten made the corn but making bubble paper prints.  Second grade drew and painted scarecrows.  After they were dry we added a paper backing and stuffed them to create form.

Art Show 2016

Well its a wrap!  The school year is almost over and another art show is complete.  Take a look at some of our proud students (and teacher) with their work.
