Back to school installation

 I always like to begin each school year with a collaborative project. This year our students studied muralist Kelsey Montague. Kelsey is famous for her street art, particularly her painting of wings. For our wings, each student designed an individual feather. When all assembled our wings are super eye-catching, everyone has a new favorite selfie spot!

Only One You

Pre K and Kinder read the classic "Only One You"

In response, Pre K glued together small paper collages and Kinder designed and painted their own fish.

What a Hoot!

Pre K had fun experimenting with clay.  Students used Crayola Model Magic to roll out and shape these little owls.

Paul Klee Poetry

Fourth grade studied the Paul Klee painting "Once Emerged from the Gray of Night"

In his painting, Klee wrote out an entire poem in a grid. Fourth grade students each composed a Haiku, and then plotted it out onto their own grid before painting it. I think the results could be mistaken for Klee's original work! 

 

   

Turkey Day

I don't know about you but I think it would be un-American not to make any little crafts for Thanksgiving.  Here is a preview of some of the Thanksgiving fun we had in Art with grades Pre-k through 1st.

Pumpkins!

This year students made a variety of  pumpkins for halloweens.

To begin with Pre-K painted their pumpkins orange and added yarn to represent the pulp and some real pumpkin seeds (which everyone was happy to taste!)

Kindergarten painted these awesome Jack-O- Lanterns

3rd grade used the wax resist method to crete these gorgeous batik pumpkins

6th grade worked for hours to create these detailed Zentangle pumpkins
