5th grade just completed a unit on Native American totem poles. For their first assignment, each student designed one paper totem that was assembled into a pole. For their second project students carved a pole into
balsa foam and added cardboard embellishments. Designing a totem that looked good in the foam was difficult and carving these was a real challenge to many students, but 3D work is always exciting and a treat.
