African Masks

4th and 5th grades just completed their African mask project.  We began the unit by watching a documentary about African masks and studying several examples.  Students then designed their own mask.  Students painted their masks and then added assorted embellishments.  For their background students designed a symbol and then created a stamp using a piece of tile and foam.  Students painted their stamp with black paint and created some really eye catching boarders.
