Scarabs

6th grade is still studying ancient Egypt, one of my favorite periods  in art history!  Students studied the significance of the dung beetle in Egypt and sculpted these amulets.  The actual scarab was made of clay with metallic paint.  Beads were created by wrapping drinking straws in metallic paper. This was my first year teaching this lesson and the students just loved it.
